Six Signs I’ve Got a Plumbing Leak

September 15, 2023by Five Star Plumbing

A plumbing leak in your home or business may not be as obvious as a leaking pipe underneath a sink. You may have a leak in the plumbing system that is invisible to the naked eye because it’s underground or in the wall. Five Star Plumbing can find your plumbing leak and fix it. Here are six signs you’ve got a plumbing leak on your property.

1. Water-Stained Ceiling

The plumbing in the upstairs or attic can start to leak and continue to leak for quite some time before it saturates the ceiling to the point that you see a water stain. Keep an eye on your ceilings for water spots if your plumbing system is getting old. If you see water on the ceiling, give us a call right away.

2. Water-Stained Concrete

Plumbing underneath your home can also spring leaks. When this happens, you may see water stains on your concrete. For example, if you have a main pipe exiting your home underneath the garage floor, the concrete may start to darken in the spot where the pipe is leaking.

3. Water-Stained Walls

Your walls can also get water-stained by a plumbing leak. Water spots on the walls are an indication that you have a pipe or joint leaking inside the wall. It’s important to have the leak fixed as soon as possible to avoid serious water damage. As it is, the areas of water stains will need to be replaced.

4. Soppy Carpeting

Another sign that you have a problem underneath the flooring is soppy carpeting. If there is a serious leak underneath your floor, the carpet may feel wet eventually. This is rare. You are more likely to see a spot on the ceiling than end up with soppy carpeting. Still, if the carpet is wet, it’s best to have the problem investigated right away to find out what is wrong.

5. Lifting Floor Panels

Leaking plumbing can also lift floor panels. Whether you have natural wood floors or linoleum, if the floor is wet underneath the panels, they will start to lift.

6. Soppy Yard

Finally, a sign that you’ve got a plumbing leak in the main line that leads to the sewage or septic system is a soppy yard. You may notice the ground is always wet and that you have excess plant growth in that spot.
