Five Star Plumbing repairs broken sewer lines. You may unaware of the problem until you notice one or more of the following signs of a broken sewer line. The main line is your responsibility, even though it empties into the municipal sewer system. The main line is on your property, and we can help if it needs to be repaired or replaced. Let’s talk about this more below.
Slow Drainage
Let’s start with clogs. Clogs can build up inside the main sewer line and eventually break it. Clogs occur when hair, oil, skin cells, and other materials build up inside the main sewer line’s wall. You will know that the clog is in the sewer line and not your house’s plumbing pipes because all of your drains will slow down. If only one drain has slowed down, you’ve got a clog in the pipes leading up to that drain. If all of the drains slow down, the clog is in the main line because it collects the water from all of the drains.
Gassy Odors
If the main sewer line breaks, it will introduce sewer gas into your home. Consequently, you will smell gassy odors coming up from your drains or out in the yard. You may also smell these odors in the basement of your home. It’s important to call us right away if you have unpleasant sewage or gassy odors because these odors could be toxic to your family, including your pets. If you can smell these odors outside, you have sewage leaking out of the broken line underneath the ground.
Mildew/Mold Growth
If you suspect that your sewage line is broken, go down to the basement and inspect the walls and floor carefully. If you see mildew or mold, there is excess water coming from somewhere. This somewhere could be the sewage line. If you do not have a basement, the mold and mildew will grow on the first floor. You might also see mold and mildew in the garage. If you have a line of excess plant growth in the yard, the plants are being watered and fertilized by the broken main sewer line.
Critter Infestation
Finally, your sewer line may be broken if your home has become infested with rodents or insects… or both. The rodents can gain access to your basement or first floor via the crack in the sewer line. The insects love the pooling water the crack causes; it provides the perfect breeding ground for reproduction. We can’t help with the infestation, but we can help with the sewer line.
