Call Five Star Plumbing right away if you are having any of the problems listed below. These problems are signs that your water heater is going bad and needs to be replaced. Ignoring the issues can cause a serious plumbing disaster that will be more expensive to repair. If your water heater is getting old, replace it before you end up with water damage on the floor surrounding it. Let’s talk more about the signs that it’s time for a new water heater below and how we can help you.

1. Corrosion and/or Rust

Inspect your water heater once a month to make sure you can’t see any corrosion or rust on it. If you do see corrosion, it’s important to understand that this orange or red material is eating through the metal out of which your water heater is made. Consequently, after it has feasted for a while, you will end up with a leak in the water heater that can be serious and cause water damage. This is why you want to have the water heater replaced when it starts to corrode.

2. A Leaking Water Heater

Your water heater may also start leaking if there is a problem with any of the seals. A leaking water heater is going to release water around it that will seep into the floor and cause water damage. It’s a good idea to have the water heater inspected professionally once a year to make sure there aren’t any tiny leaks that could turn into major ones. Catching the problem before it becomes a huge issue will make repairing the problem easier and less expensive.

3. Water Heater Noise

If your water heater is making a ton of noise while it is heating up the water, you have mineral deposits inside the tank. Minerals are found in hard water, and, as you know, they build up on all types of surfaces. If you have a hard time keeping your bathroom clean because of hard water stains, imagine what is going on inside of your water heater.

4. Lukewarm/Cold Water

Finally, a faulty water heater is going to produce lukewarm or cold water no matter how high you turn up the hot water. This can be a rude awakening to water heater problems if you have to take a cold shower in the morning.
